Spring 2004

“This was taken not far out of Longford on the way to Seaspray. I took it on the way to work on the morning of 28th October 2004. The camera I had then was a 5 megapixel Olympus c550z; a compact digital with lots of manual control.”

November 2004,
Spring 2004

”This was the first and only attempt I’ve had at photographing fireworks. I used a tripod. It was in Traralgon and the fireworks were put on by the Lion’s Club - I don’t know what their reason was, most likely to raise money. I remember, as usual, Ella my whippet was with me. I was so focussed on the photography that I didn’t realise she was in distress from the explosions of the fireworks. A good person who was behind me and noticed her, held her close and covered her ears. She was the sort of dog who could bring out compassion and caring in most peopleJ; she would use this skill to her advantage in her everyday life usually to improve her comfort, or to get a dog chocolate or shame you into playing with her or taking her for a walk. It was taken 26th November , 2004.”

“This was taken at Phillip Island on the 12th March 2005. It was a public holiday. Joh and I were camping there with a sea kayaking club.”

“I’m out of current photos. I haven’t had many photo opportunities lately, so now I’m starting to go through older stuff.
This picture was taken near Stratford in Gippsland, Victoria. I think it was when big fires were becoming fairly consistent. The date of this pic is 17th June 2005. I was on my way home from work, when I saw this fire from the road. The Stratford fire brigade were already on site - it was close to a couple of farm houses.”

“This shot was taken while I was walking with a club. It was in a temperate rainforest close to Hobart, so there wasn’t much light. I improvised using my tripod as a mono pod to get the extra height that I needed. Given more time I would have found a better positioned fern.”

“I’ve more or less decided to be friends with Floss, we have stuff in common. She’s a funny girl. I was trying to take photos of the poor chook today, and I think floss was jealous, she kept chasing the chook away. She was quite happy for me to take pictures of her though.”

“Two parrots have been eating the little fruits on this tree since yesterday. I tried to approach a them a couple of times and they took off fairly quickly. Then I started talking to them; this seemed to put them at ease and I was able to get closer.”

“It was so cold this morning; as a Tasmanian friend says, cold enough to freeze your bits off.
Chugging down the middle of the river like a never ending train was a long stream of fog.”
