Majesty

29th December 2006.

I reckon this is along The Barry Way, somewhere near Jindabyne. We (Joh and I) were on our way to Wollongong.

The Barry Way is one of my favourite pieces of road. I’ve travelled it a few times, heading to a base in Jindabyne to explore the white water of the area.

It travels through the Snowy Mountains from Gippsland. There is one section which is amazing; it runs along a steep sided range for hours, with a sheer drop to one side. It is so steep that the view is unrestricted by trees. And, it is a long way down. This is where I took the pictures from.

There are sections of the road that you can see winding away in the distance – it really does look precarious and like something out of a fantasy film.

We met a guy from Mt Isa travelling in a 4wd in the other direction. He was driving slowly in the middle of the road. The road is gravel but good. He just wanted it to finish. He couldn’t believe that people were allowed to drive on it, and that there were no barriers. I was thinking if I’d lived in Mt Isa all my life, I’d probably feel the same way; there is nothing anywhere near that you could fall off.

It was a beautiful place, but I felt a bit like him I must admit!
